Collection: Kako Morita

Kako Morita was a Japanese artist and scientific illustrator of the early 20th century, recognised for his meticulous studies of marine life. Working alongside leading ichthyologists, he created richly coloured plates of Japanese, Hawaiian, and Samoan fishes that united precise anatomical detail with a graceful, painterly style, and are still prized today as both artworks and important records in the history of marine science.
