Description

Restored from a 19th-century plate, this vintage scientific illustration brings together Old World snakes—the Indian Cobra (Naja naja), European Adder (Vipera berus), Aesculapian Snake (Zamenis longissimus), and Grass Snake (Natrix natrix)—coiled around pale tree trunks and leafy banks, with one swallowing a frog beside a shaded stream. The restoration preserves period character while reviving fine linework and color, making it a striking natural history art print for study or display.
